Before you even launch your site you should take a quick look at the on-page factors for SEO which can increase your chances of achieving good organic search results.
To allow your site to be easily indexed, there are a few steps you should take:
1. Minimize the use of java script or flash. Use as much HTML as you can for navigation and displaying important messages. The more complex and "cool" you make your site site, the greater difficulty the search engines will have crawling your site.
2. Make sure you have proper meta tags. Description, keywords and title tags should have lots of relevant information about the information you display on the page. The results of these display in search results, so have to be compelling enough to drive click-through.
3. Create robots.txt tags. It shows the search spiders where to search on your site.
4. Use headings in the correct places. H1, H2 and H3 are excellent for relevant and important phrases. But use them sparingly, so your text appears and reads normally.
5. Create a sitemap.xml, this small file easily allows search engines spiders to crawl all your pages and index properly. Then set up a HTML version for human visitors.
6. Include a page for creating links to other websites. This page is a really good idea for a place to post reciprocal links. This should in no way be a replacement for inbound links, but can help you get established as part of a link exchange campaign. This is very different to paid links, which should be avoided. http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=66736&topi...
7. Submission pages for new content. Search engines love new content, it is even better if you can get help creating it. If you can make it simple, this is a really good way to build your site.
9. Create good content. Make sure the content on your website uses the keywords you want to target for SEO, but at the same time it has to be useful and legible. For example: "We are top at what we do" is useless compared to: "Cascade Digital has been highly acclaimed by clients as one of best online marketing and digital agencies."
10. Use ALT tags for images. Whenever you have an image, have a mention in the body text about what the image shows, include a similar, keyword heavy version in the HTML ALT tags.
